Kai Before Fire

I love being able to show the before pic.'s of my work! This is Kai - pronounced "Kay". I love carving into clay, creating a relief style of art. Glazing a piece in a multitude of color can be a challenge when working with high fire glazes. You really need to know your glaze and how it will react, will it play nicely with others. The color you see before fire is not the color you will see after fire. This is both exciting and scary for me! As for the holes, these are a challenge as well. It is imperative that all holes are completly clean of glaze and that the area around the hole is glazed thin but not so thin that it looks sloppy or unfinished. If one hole gets clogged with glaze it can completely ruin a piece. This particular girl was a challenge and time consuming but worth every minute of struggle. She is the best piece I have ever created. Obviously my favorite!
